Campuhan Ridge Walk

Campuhan Ridge Walk, Bali
Walking trailGianyarUbud

Campuhan Ridge Walk is a walking route along a grassy ridge near central Ubud. It offers open hillside views and a change of pace from the town’s busy streets. Choose it for a simple outdoor walk rather than expecting a remote mountain trek or a continuous route through rice terraces.

The main decision is how far you want to go before turning back. A walk can be worthwhile without covering every possible extension. Plan your return while you still have energy and daylight, especially if someone in your group prefers a shorter outing.

Finding the approach

The commonly described approach is near the Ibah area and Pura Gunung Lebah. Follow the current signs to the ridge route and keep temple access separate from the public walking path. Do not enter a hotel or religious space simply because a map line appears to pass nearby.

If a driver drops you off, agree on a specific meeting location for the return. The trail is a walking destination; a vehicle cannot be expected to follow you along the ridge. Save the pickup details before setting off so you are not trying to explain your position after the walk.

What the walk is like

The appeal is the open ridge and the views into the surrounding green landscape. Walk at a pace that allows you to look around without repeatedly stopping in the middle of the path. Give other walkers room to pass and keep away from exposed edges.

Some sections are open to the sun. Morning or a later daylight visit may feel more comfortable than the hottest part of the day, but choose a time that still allows a clear return. Do not assume that an outdoor route has lighting or services along every section.

Weather, footwear and preparation

Wear shoes with a reliable grip and carry drinking water. Rain can change the feel of a path, and a short walk can become uncomfortable if you arrive without suitable footwear. If the surface is slippery or the weather deteriorates, shorten the route rather than treating a planned distance as an obligation.

Bring sun protection and keep your belongings easy to carry. The walk works best when you can move comfortably with your hands free. If travelling with children, maintain supervision and choose a turnaround point that leaves enough energy for the way back.

Campuhan or a rice-field walk?

Campuhan is primarily a ridge walk. If your main interest is a closer agricultural landscape, compare it with Kajeng Rice Field Walk or Ceking Tegallalang Rice Terrace. Those are separate outings with their own approaches and terrain, not interchangeable names for the same path.

For a varied day, combine the ridge with one indoor or cultural stop. Blanco Renaissance Museum is associated with the Campuhan area, while Museum Puri Lukisan and Ubud Palace are options toward central Ubud. Check their current admission and opening arrangements before building them into a timed plan.

Admission and responsible use

Indonesia Travel lists Campuhan among Bali’s free attractions. That does not mean nearby parking, a drink or a private business service is free. Ask what any requested charge covers and keep purchases distinct from the public walk itself.

Stay on the established route, carry litter out and respect neighbouring land. If you want to stop for photographs, choose a place where people can still pass. Avoid walking into vegetation or cultivated areas to obtain a different angle.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need hiking experience?

It is generally described as a gentle walk, but comfort depends on your mobility, the heat and the current surface. Choose the length according to your own group rather than a standard itinerary.

Can I make it a short outing?

Yes. Turn back at a sensible point instead of assuming you must complete a fixed circuit. Confirm the route you are taking so the return is straightforward.
