Diamond Beach

BeachKlungkungNusa Penida

Diamond Beach lies on the eastern side of Nusa Penida in the Pejukutan area. Pale sand, limestone cliffs and pointed offshore rocks give the coast its distinctive appearance. A staircase cut into the cliff provides a route toward the beach, but the view from above is already a major part of the attraction.

Decide whether your outing is a viewpoint visit or a more demanding descent before planning the rest of the day. A beach photographed from a cliff can look much easier to reach than it is. The return climb, current path conditions and your boat schedule all matter.

Enjoying the upper views

Begin with the permitted clifftop viewing areas. From there, the shape of the bay and its rock formations can be appreciated without committing to the staircase. Give other visitors room, remain inside barriers and avoid leaning over the edge for a photograph.

If the light or weather is not what you expected, allow time to look at the wider coastline rather than concentrating only on a familiar social-media composition. The attraction is the landscape itself, not a requirement to recreate a particular image.

Considering the staircase

Ask about the current access arrangements before beginning the descent. Steps beside a coastal cliff require attention, especially if the surface is wet or the route is busy. Wear footwear with grip and carry only what you can manage while keeping your hands available.

The walk down is only half the effort. Leave energy, water and time for the climb back. Anyone uncomfortable with heights or unsure about the route can enjoy the view from above instead. Do not let a paid tour or the presence of other visitors pressure you into continuing beyond your comfort level.

Is Diamond Beach a swimming stop?

Do not assume that reaching the sand makes the sea suitable for swimming. This is an exposed coastal setting, and waves and currents need to be assessed locally. Follow any prohibitions and staff guidance. Plan the visit around scenery and permitted access rather than promising yourself time in the water.

If you are travelling with children, choose the viewing and walking plan with their supervision needs in mind. A photograph does not show all the difficulties of a path or the behaviour of the sea.

Getting there and organising an east-side day

From mainland Bali, travel involves a boat crossing followed by transport on Nusa Penida. Confirm the harbour, pickup details and return check-in time before departure. Road journeys on the island should be planned using current local advice, not straight-line distances between map pins.

Atuh Beach is a logical companion for an east-side outing. Thousand Islands Viewpoint and Rumah Pohon Molenteng offer other perspectives on the coastal landscape, with their own access and payment arrangements. Choose how many viewpoints you really want, leaving time to enjoy each rather than rushing through nearly identical photo stops.

Costs and preparation

Confirm the current entrance and parking arrangement at the authorised point. Ask whether a ticket covers both an adjacent attraction and Diamond Beach or whether they are charged separately. Photo platforms, transport and other services may have additional costs.

Bring drinking water, sun protection and a secure bag. Keep your driver informed if you change from a short viewpoint visit to a descent, because that affects the rest of the route. For a day trip, protect the harbour return buffer even if it means dropping the final optional stop.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see Diamond Beach without going down the steps?

Yes. The clifftop perspective is an important part of the visit and can be the main plan for anyone who does not want the descent.

Is Diamond Beach near Kelingking?

They are on different sides of the island. Combining both requires a longer cross-island itinerary. A focused east-side day gives more flexibility for walking and breaks.
